Here are some Quick Tips on how to troubleshoot your computer.
My Broadband isn't as fast as it should be?
Broadband is complicated and it can be difficult to get it working right. Problems can range from faulty network adapters, incorrect IP and DNS settings, to spyware and viruses using up your connection. A good place to start is by running some anti-spyware software. Spyware is any program designed to gather information on your computer and send it to someone else over your broadband. These programs will slow down your internet speeds and slow down your computer in general. Another good idea is to check what kind of upload and download rates you are getting. This can be done using several different web sites such as Speedtest.net or Irishisptest.com. Once you know what kind of speeds you are getting you can contact your Internet Service Provider and make sure that they are as close to the rates that you are paying for as possible
My computer takes a very long time to start up?
Your computer probably booted into windows after only a few seconds the first time you turned it on, but over time and with more programs running on it booting into windows can take a long, long time. To avoid this try to restrict the amount of programs you install and when ever possible if there is an option to start the program when the computer starts turn it off. The more programs that start when windows starts the longer your computer will take to start. Removing some unused programs can really help the start-up and running speeds of your machine. Of course this can only help so much and good anti-virus and spy ware programs are essential to keep your computer running smoothly.
